Mary Jeanne van Appledorn

Currently Paul Whitfield Horn Professor at the School of Music at Texas Tech University, Dr. Mary Jeanne van Appledorn received her B. Music in piano, M. Music in theory, and Ph.D. in music from the Eastman School of Music. She did Post-doctoral study at MIT. Dr. van Appledorn writes music for a range of instruments and ensembles which have been performed around the world. She is the winner of numerous awards including the Premier Prix from the World Federation for the Carillon in Dijon France in 1980, and ASCAP Standard Panel Awards from 1980-1997. Her works are intense and introspective. She often incorporates jazz elements and striking timbral effects into tightly controlled formal structures.
