Charlotte Duchambge
1778 - 1858
The daughter of a noble family, Duchambge received a convent education, later studying piano with Jean-Baptiste Desormery. After losing both her parents as well as the family fortune at the age of 20, she continued her musical education and began a lifelong friendship with the poet Marceline Desbordes-Balmore, documented by a lengthy extant correspondence. Many leading French poets of her day wrote texts for her almost 400 romances.
